High Concern

~69% of NYC housing was built before lead paint was banned in 1978. 🏚️ There is NO safe level of lead exposure — it causes irreversible brain damage, learning disabilities & behavioral issues. 1,000+ NYC kids are still diagnosed with elevated lead levels every year.

Tap Water & Microplastics
NYC tap water meets federal standards 💧 — but old building pipes (pre 1986) can leach lead between the main and your faucet. Microplastics have also been detected in tap water globally. Long-term effects are still being studied, but the early data isn't reassuring.
